Bolivia Hotspot: Conversation with Alex Villca Limaco
by Ron Mader

BOLIVIA WIKI

Publication date: March 2014

Bolivia: Mapa de Areas Protegidas

FLICKR ALBUM: Bolivia

Great to talk with Alex Villca Limaco this week about biodiversity conservation, indigenous tourism and clothing tips for visitors to Bolivia. Alex and I first met via the Indigenous Tourism and Biodiversity Website Award in 2009-2010 and we met up again at 2012's COP11 in Hyderabad, India, but most of our communication has been online.

Alex works promoting responsible travel in one of the world’s great biodiversity hotspots, the Madidi National Park. Next week he’s presenting a talk on redes sociales (the social web) at FIT Bolivia. Keep an eye on his Twitter account: @alexvillca

There’s no better way to learn how the social web works than by putting this into practice, which prompted this candid conversation on the first day of spring (northern hemisphere) and first day of fall (southern hemisphere):

Technical Tip: Those interested in appearing on camera for Planeta's hangouts are asked to download the Google+ hangout plug-ins (if necessary) and to test this out beforehand. Please let Ron Mader know ahead of time if would like to join on screen and your gmail address. While the hangouts can be viewed by everyone, those appearing on screen are by invitation. Everyone is welcome to provide specific examples via Google+ or via Twitter by including @ronmader in your tweet.

Google+ Tip: Please circle Planeta

Comments welcome on Ron's blog

How to join a Google hangout
Get an account on Google+ which requires a Gmail address.
Get a webcam and microphone.
Let the hangout facilitator/organizer know of your interest in participating.
Turn off Skype as it can cause conflicts with the Google hangout
Use the Google Chrome browser to load Google+

For professional chats which are recorded:
Once you're logged in - preferably 5-10 minutes before the chat begins, prepare a ‘lower third’ caption
Use your own Google+ page, Facebook account, Twitter or anything else you'd like to share with the world that the hangout is about to begin.
Bring something for show and tell. We love to hear you talk about tangible folkart, food and lo-fi heritage media: postcards, flyers, posters

How to watch a Google hangout
If you want to watch a hangout, no login is required. You can view the hangout live or archived on YouTube.

Buzzword Bingo: Hangout = To relax completely in an unassuming way, also Google term for live video conversation
