WHY PARTICIPATE IN AN ONLINE EVENT?

The big question is ... why? Why host an online event? Why participate in an online event? Why sponsor an online event? Why co-host an online event?

There are two great benefits. First, it's less expensive than holding a traditional, face-to-face meeting. If people are going to be reading at each other, that is best achieved online. Second is environmental conservation. There is considerable less waste and no environmental impact caused by transportation.

Like traditional conferences, online conferencing allows us to show what we know, what we wish to learn and how we get along with one another. Online dialogues broaden the area of discussion in ways that the participants choose.

Finally, there is networking. We get to "meet" other voices. Personally, I use the events (virtual or natural) as a means of evaluating professional relationships.

DECENTRALIZING COMMUNICATION

The best news is that the events, when conducted online, facilitate decentralized communication.

There are frequent mini-reunions of participants from the Certification Workshop or the Media, Environment and Tourism Conference (MET)! Plus, there have been opportunities to present findings at events in the natural world

Success can be attributed to behind-the-scenes promotion, research and individual networking. We have also given ourselves time to get the word out and to prepare participants. Announces are posted in the relevant online forums and our events calendar.
